Comprised of a diverse group of companies and organizations, the
GridWise Alliance is a public-private partnership dedicated to bringing
our nation's energy system into the 21st century. The Alliance brings
together key stakeholders and works to identify and resolve the
challenges associated with implementing the GridWise Vision. The
Alliance also acts as a resource for the U.S. Department of Energy, the
Office of Electric Transmission and Distribution as well as for other
interested parties.
A
non-profit (501-c6) organization, membership in the Alliance is open
and may include businesses such as energy customers, utilities and
vendors as well as associations, regulators, public agencies and
elected representatives. To provide oversight, the Alliance established
a Board of Directors, which represents a wide range of stakeholders in
the energy system. These leaders share a common belief in the merits of
GridWise and in the necessity of working together to refine and
implement the vision.
The GridWise Alliance Declaration:
Created by Alliance members as an endorsement of the GridWise Vision,
this declaration is a non-binding agreement to work together to achieve
that vision. Download PDF. (PDF documents require Adobe Acrobat Reader. Get Acrobat Reader.)

The DOE provided nominal support for the establishment of the GridWise
Alliance and is gaining insight for programs within its Office of
Electric Transmission and Distribution. To promote and oversee the
transformation of our energy system and to ensure broad, public
benefit, the DOE is seeking to identify and change key regulatory
barriers, catalyze open-protocol architectures and standards, develop
strategic technologies when commercial interest is insufficient,
conduct demonstrations to increase interest and decrease risk
perceptions, and support the basic science needed to analyze and
advance the transformation.
